The Rhode Island Community Food Bank provides food to people in need and promotes long-term solutions to the problem of hunger. The Food Bank employs multiple programs to ensure that Rhode Islanders have access to the nutritious food they need. Their Neighborhood Pantry Express and Direct Delivery programs offer the ability to efficiently distribute healthy foods to high-need communities. The Neighborhood Pantry Express delivers Fresh Produce to areas of the state with the highest unmet need. The program is servicing high-need communities in:
Newport
Warwick
Westerly
Peace Dale
Providence
Woonsocket
The Neighborhood Pantry Express arrives fully loaded and utilizes a Farmers Market approach, which allows clients that have been referred by their respective member agencies to check in with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank staff on site. Volunteers from the member agencies participating in the program select from the fresh produce available, have it weighed and are on their way with 10-15 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to their perspective agencies. In addition, and based on availability, the Neighborhood Pantry Express also offers baked goods and other perishable food items from time to time.
The Food Bank has additional programs that are aimed at breaking the cycle of hunger. Their Community Kitchen program trains low-income or unemployed adults in food preparation skills, giving them the training, experience and confidence they need to attain gainful employment. While acquiring invaluable skills, students prepare meals for Kids Cafe - a program of Feeding America, the Nation's Food Bank Network. In Rhode Island, Kids Cafe serves wholesome evening meals to children at risk of hunger, supplementing the federal School Breakfast and School Lunch programs. Kids Cafe is currently feeding over 500 children at nine sites in Providence and Newport:

* Hartford Park Boys & Girls Club
